This movie takes place in a courthouse where a dozen jury members are determining the defendant’s guilt in a murder trial. While they all seem to be ready to rush to a verdict, one member of the jury demands they take their time and discuss all of the evidence first.
The movie stars Henry Fonda who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance. He won the BAFTA Best Foreign Actor, and the movie won Best Motion Picture at the Edgar Allan Poe Awards.
Casablanca
Humphrey Bogart plays the owner of an American cafe in Morocco during WWII. Rick’s Café (nightclub) becomes a haven for Europeans seeking the exit visas they need to flee Europe for America. He’s told by police to watch for Victor Laszlo, a resistance leader who the Germans want to be detained.
Laszlo will pay any price to get the exit visas that Rick is in possession of. The problem is that Laszlo’s wife is Rick’s former girlfriend (Ingrid Bergman), a woman who broke his heart, which makes the decision to help or punish a difficult one.
Gone With the Wind
Gone With the Wind is a saga starring Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara, a flirtatious Southern belle during the Civil War and Reconstruction. She has her eyes set on the neighbor’s son, only he has no interest in her, so she marries another man hoping to make him jealous. Throughout the Civil War, she has captured the attention of Rhett Butler (Clark Gable), but she continues to laugh at the thought of ever falling for him.
Lawrence of Arabia
Lawrence of Arabia is based on the life of T. E. Lawrence, an English officer who led Arab Bedouin tribes in battles against the Turks during WWI. It starred Peter O’Toole and won the 1963 Oscar for Best Picture.
Psycho
Psycho is well-known for being a creepy psychological thriller where Anthony Perkins plays a young hotel owner who is under his domineering mother’s control. Janet Leigh is a woman who embezzled money and is on the run. She won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role. It’s a classic Alfred Hitchcock movie.
Rear Window
Rear Window is another Hitchcock film. This time, James Stewart plays a disabled photographer who watches his neighbors through binoculars. He becomes convinced he’s witnessed a murder, but no one believes him, not even his girlfriend (Grace Kelly).
